| Role of Aitzaz Ahsan "?"

I would like to have a serious debate on the role of Aitzaz Ahsan. Most of us supported him because of his role in getting the chief reinstated for the first time, and then as a Lawyers' leader. But after PPP came into power, few of his acts caused serious blows to lawyers movement. I dont know he did it deliberately or unintentionally. But consider the following acts and reply with your opinion.

| Passion over paisa: igniting a real movement
| By Salman Shuaib | 564 Views |

To ignite a real movement in Pakistan, all Imran Khan has to do is grab one issue of practical concern to the people and involve the entire party in it. One such idea is creating foodbanks at all PTI offices in the country where better off members can bring food to share with poorer people for free. All the Chairman has to do is issue the order:

| Status quo vs Anti-status quo
| By Ahsan Mansoor | 484 Views |

I have often heard a number of political speakers describing the post 9th March situation as one man’s adventure against an institution which he thought would cause problems for his future plans to stay in power. Even today a number of analysts refer to ‘Aiwan-e-Sadar’ while speaking of conspiracies against a democratically elected government. This is mainly because the Musharraf is seen as a ‘target in sight’ if we have to point at one person responsible for post-9th March situation.

| Step One - Replace the GDP with GPI (Genuine Progress Indicator)
| By Salman Shuaib | 748 Views |

Many, especially Imran Khan, have pointed out that the GDP does not tell you about the widening gap between rich and poor. However, we note that so far, the criticism of GDP as a skewed measure of progress has not dented its credibility. This is because we are blind followers of the capitalist West, where money and materialism are the raison d’etre of life. Let us thus identify what’s wrong with the GDP.

So, we have opted for a slight change in our bowling action. The bowlers and spectators however remain the same. MoveForJustice.org had become quite a brand name, and we will retain it to redirect to insaf.pk, but why did we change the name. I would like to briefly state the reasons before I bid adieu for the night:

| Replace NRO with general legislation on "Judicial Pardon"
| By Salman Shuaib | 840 Views |

Our problem is to ensure that CJP Iftikhar resumes his office wihout any conditions attached. At the same time we need to restore a level of trust and cooperation between the reinstated judiciary and new executive. The NRO is unacceptable as it gives an exclusive constitutional amnesty to certain political parties for their alleged corruption. In order to restore Pakistan's judiciary with honour and without such humiliating conditions as the NRO, I recommend that a general concept of judicial pardon for those who commit acts of redemption be legislated. Those who commit an act of goodness such as restoring the judiciary without any conditions attached, thereby protecting Pakistan from billions of dollars of corruption in future, should be eligible to receive a judicial pardon for their past crimes - provided that such a pardon is given at the discretion of the judiciary and not a part of any legislation. Also, if any past corruption is proven, then the guilty individual that received a pardon will still have to reimburse Pakistan's coffers with the stolen amount but will not be subject to any personal punishment such as jail for crimes committed in the specific period that he received a pardon for. The pardoned individuals will remain accountable for any future acts of corruption.

| A new dawn in Pakistan

After many years of one-man rule, suicide bombings, lawlesness, incompetence, scandals, butchery of media and judiciary, the elections 2008 have surprisingly breathed a new life into the soul of Pakistan. We are rid of Musharraf's assorted lotas. No doubt the same pre-99 faces have again come to the fore, but this time there is a criticial difference: Pakistan's media now operates much freely, and an independent judiciary will have to be restored.

| Ego and organization
| By Salman Shuaib | 809 Views |

Why has PTI 'failed' to become an institution over the last twelve years? How come Shaukat Khanum became an institution so easily? Why did the party have only Rs. 22,000 in its bank account before the last major event? After some experience, I think I have finally diagnosed our party's ailment: the "ego". Every man has an ego. The ego is your "Self", the "I" inside you. Egos are both an organization's best friend and its worst enemy. Tamed, they are like arabian horses that have carried many a muslim army across deserts against impossible odds. Untamed, egos are like wild horses trampling upon everyone around them and jumping over every boundary, hampering institutionalization.

Sensing beauty of the past,
and wisdom of days to come,
my heart took refuge in the pen,
over a feeble tongue.
Now listen to a beat,
of this open'd heart,
inspired by the One,
whose wonder overcomes.
